The cold early morning temperature of 1°C in Kemptville kept some away from this last OBC time trial of 2011, but the nineteen - three women and sixteen men - who arrived to ride enjoyed sunshine, light winds and temperatures which moved up to the mid-teens by race end. Despite the very high air pressure (103.4 kPa in Ottawa), many had good, fast rides. Six of the men broke the hour mark, with Jon Gee (54:46) being the fastest, Craig Hawkes (55:03) finishing in second place and Erwan Pérès (55:39) being third. Erwan Pérès was doing his first OBC/ABC 40km time trial, whereas Jon Gee and Craig Hawkes along with fourth place Rodrigo Diaz (56:48) and today's most improved rider Nicolas Déry (1:10:48) who both rode faster today than in any of their previous 40km attempts. None of the three women postet improvements upon their previous database or season-series best. First place woman Dianne Marleau was 42 seconds off of her best of 1:05:24 with 1:06:06. Second place woman Christina Czaban (1:09:58) was doing her first 40km time trial. Third place lady Mary Ajersch did 1:14:15 which is more than 6 minutes slower than her all-time best of 1:08:07 on the more difficult old Almonte course (Wolfgrove Road and Tatlock Road), but we must congratulate Mary for being on the verge of her 71st birthday! Applying the VTTA-plus age/gender handicapping to today's results, she ends up in 8th place overall out of the 19 riders. As well, when we apply this handicap to all of her 40km results, her performance today ranks 5th out of her twenty-four 40km time trials. Way to go!

(Lest complaints about me just lazily sucking in the results surface, I wish to make it perfectly clear that I would gladly do the data entry, getting the results up within a few of hours of the event, as history shows that I did for the WTT series for the decade beginning in 1998, and for the OTT series from 1999-2002 and again in 2006. The OBC Board however, not only won't let me volunteer here, but strangely enough they actually expelled me from the OBC for donating this time trial web site to you !)
